Pumpkins

Barrie Hill Farms grows several types of pumpkins including; pie, white,  pink pumpkins and of course ones for carving. Any type of pumpkin can be used to cook with, and makes a wonderful addition to many recipes.  They can be used in soups, salads, loafs, muffins, cookies and many other dishes. Pie pumpkins are the best to use when pureeing as they have no strings. Freeze your puree in measured amounts to make your favorite recipes all winter.

Pumpkins are a type of fruit and are part of the squash family. Pumpkins are a good source of fiber and are loaded with vitamin A, B and potassium. Pumpkin is the only fruit or vegetable to contain three different carotenoids which protect against heart disease, cancer and may even help slow the aging process. Pumpkin seeds are full of iron, zinc, calcium and magnesium; they make a great snack roasted with your favorite seasoning.
